Back Pain Treatment in Whiting, NJ
GSMC Whiting Office
For many people in Manchester Township's adult communities, back pain shows up as trouble walking: needing to sit down partway through the clubhouse loop, leaning on the cart at the store, or legs that feel heavy after a few blocks. That pattern often points to lumbar spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal canal that becomes more common with age. Our Whiting office on Route 70 sees it every week, along with disc problems, arthritis of the spine and compression fractures from osteoporosis.
Your first visit includes a history, an exam and a review of your imaging. We also review your medicines, especially blood thinners and diabetes medicines, because they affect when and how procedures can be done. We coordinate with your primary care doctor and cardiologist when needed.
Treatment often starts with physical therapy and medicines. Image-guided options can include epidural steroid injections, facet joint injections and radiofrequency ablation. For stenosis, the MILD procedure may be an option in selected patients. For a painful compression fracture, kyphoplasty may be discussed. For long-standing nerve pain, spinal cord stimulation can be considered, starting with a trial.
We explain the risks of each option and use your own goals, such as walking farther or sleeping through the night, to judge whether treatment is working. Results vary from person to person. GSMC does not perform spine surgery.

Back Pain in Whiting, NJ: common questions
Why do my legs get tired when I walk but feel better when I sit?
That pattern is common with lumbar spinal stenosis. It can also come from circulation problems, so it's worth a proper evaluation.
I take a blood thinner. Can I still have a back injection?
Often, yes, but it may need to be paused under the direction of the doctor who prescribed it. Never stop a blood thinner on your own. Our team will coordinate with your doctor.
