Pain Management Doctors Near You: Meet the GSMC Team
Pain Management
Choosing a pain management doctor is a big decision. You are trusting someone with your comfort, your sleep and your ability to do the things you love. You deserve a doctor who listens, explains things clearly and is honest about what treatment can and can't do.
GSMC is led by Dr. Dharam Mann, who completed fellowships in pain management, cardiac anesthesia and critical care at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard.
Garden State Medical Center's team of physicians and advanced practice providers sees patients at seven offices in Ocean and Monmouth County.
Our training and focus
Our physicians are board certified, with fellowship training in pain management.
That background shapes how we care for people. We look at the whole patient, including heart health, medicines and other conditions, before planning any procedure.
Our focus is non-surgical care. GSMC does not perform open spine or joint surgery. If a surgical opinion would help you, we'll tell you why and help you find the right referral. You can read about each provider on our doctors page.
What to look for in any pain management doctor
Whether you choose us or someone else, here are fair questions to ask:
- Are they board certified in pain medicine? Board certification means extra training and testing in this field.
- Do they look for the source of the pain? Good care starts with a diagnosis, not a quick prescription.
- Do they use image guidance? X-ray or ultrasound guidance helps place injections precisely.
- Do they offer more than one kind of treatment? A doctor with many tools can match the treatment to you.
- Do they explain risks and set honest expectations? No one should promise you a cure.
- Do they work with your other doctors? This matters if you take blood thinners or have diabetes or heart disease.
How our team works together
Pain rarely has just one cause. That's why we work as a team. Our providers share notes and plans, so you don't have to tell your story from scratch each time.
Our treatment options include epidural steroid injections, nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulation, the MILD procedure, Basivertebral Nerve Ablation and PRP therapy. Not everyone needs a procedure. Many people do well with physical therapy, exercise and the right medicines.
GSMC participates with all Aetna plans, including Aetna HMO. For other plans, our staff will check your benefits first. We can't promise any plan will cover a certain treatment.
