What is interventional radiology?
Interventional radiology (IR) uses live imaging, such as X-ray, ultrasound or CT, to guide a thin tube (catheter) or needle through a small nick in the skin, usually at the wrist or groin. Through that catheter, conditions can be treated from inside the blood vessels. Most IR procedures are outpatient, and most people go home the same day.
