PRP Injections in Toms River, NJ
GSMC Toms River Office
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) uses a small amount of your own blood. It is spun to concentrate the platelets and injected into an injured tendon, ligament or joint, usually with ultrasound guidance. At our Toms River office, PRP is one option for people with tendon problems such as tennis elbow, rotator cuff tendinopathy or patellar tendinitis, and for some cases of knee, hip or shoulder arthritis.
PRP is not right for every problem, and it is not a quick fix. The goal is to support the tissue's own repair over weeks to months, usually alongside a rehab program. Your provider will review your exam and imaging and talk through whether PRP, a different injection or therapy alone makes the most sense.
The procedure takes about an hour, including the blood draw and preparation. You may be sore for a few days, and anti-inflammatory medicines are usually avoided for a period before and after. Your provider will give you specific instructions.
PRP is often not covered by insurance. Our staff will give you the self-pay cost before you schedule. Results vary from person to person, and we discuss realistic expectations up front.

How many PRP injections will I need?
Many people have one, and some have a series. Your provider will recommend a plan based on the condition and how you respond.
Can PRP replace surgery?
For some tendon problems, PRP and rehab are tried before surgery is considered. It does not reverse advanced arthritis. Your provider will be honest about what it can and can't do for you.
